Broad Museum Critique

Untitled #168 by Cindy Sherman

Five things I like about this piece of artwork:

  1. Although I know that most of the time the images that attract me the most are with warm colors and tones, this image with blue colors caught my attention, which is interesting because cold tones do not attract me a lot, but the way that this artwork is composed, particularly for me it is very effective.
  2. This image has a mystery, it seems as if a crime scene has happened here. There is a lot going on, there are many things that have to be analyzed in order to understand this image.
  3. This image tells a story, I think it is something fictional or horrific behind this, but the elements and details found here may reveal a tragic event that happened to the person wearing those clothes. I can even see the outline of her feet, her hands and her head in dust, but it is still recognizable.
  4. This image inspires me to create and write a story for a book, a movie, or a video game based on this image.
  5. This is a creation of Cindy Sherman, one of my favorite photographers because she works on very conceptual subjects and has a style quite different from the rest. With this piece of artwork, there is no exception, perhaps the message that is being given with this work is about feminism, something that cannot be appreciated easily, but it can also be interpreted from different points of view.

Why You Should Become a Photographer?

  1. It is accessible, you can start playing around with your camera. Regardless of your mood, if you are inspired, bored, or just want to experience something new, start playing by taking photos of objects, people, landscapes, etc. “We photographers are lucky in that photography is always there for us when we need it ” This is something that everyone can do; just start developing your techniques, style, knowledge and skills.
  2. It is current, “Photography and videography are at the forefront of modern times. Never before has been such a demand for it. The internet has blown up with the need for constant content.” Many people, companies, magazines need from photographers, so you probably would always have a job being a photographer.
  3. You can be your own boss, “Working as a freelance photographer allows you the freedom to dictate everything about your business: your public image, your brand, your calendar, your marketability, your clients – the list is endless.” You can work in the field that you want, with the freedom to have your own rules, schedules, etc. And you can always be proud of your achievements for your own efforts.
  4. Free from constraints, “More and more studies are emerging claiming that we’re not programmed to work eight hours a day, five days a week … and most photography jobs involve a working schedule that deviates from just that.” You can either chose from having a routine or not. Just depend on how your system works, it can be as flexible as possible.
  5. The balance, “One of the things I like best about what I do is the versatility of the people I get to meet. Unlike other positions in the creative industry, such as modeling, there seems to be no stigma in regard to age, meaning that I ‘ m regularly working alongside people I wouldn’t usually get the chance to speak with. ” An important part of being a photographer is the experiences that you build along the way, and this job is a great opportunity to learn and meet people being yourself.
  6. You can do Anything, “We’re free to follow our creative vision and bring it to life.” Photography is very diverse and positive for everyone. “Photography is a great creative outlet. It works wonders for stress relief, and many aspects of it can be rather therapeutic” So, you can enjoy photography because it allows you to relax and get lost in the creative world out of reality.
  7. “Working as a photographer is nothing short of a privilege. In my own experience, it brings me a lot of satisfaction. The opportunities it provides keep life fresh and exciting” The people you meet in the process can open doors to many more opportunities, you can move to many other fields; you decide how much you want to extend yourself.

Critique of Silver List Photographers

WIDLINE CADET

Kearra_7_31_18_136_W.jpg
http://www.widlinecadet.com/

This photographer is a Haitian artist. Her content is based on personal history, race, migration, and cultural identity. She uses photography to express black feminine interiority and selfhood. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, TIME magazine, Wallpaper, among others. What really captivates me about her work is that simplicity and sharpness that is present in all her photos. Everything is so soft and relaxing for me, all her portraits really makes me feel and remember something that I have not even experienced. The editing, the colors and the contrast characterizes her style. There is a certain elegance and simplicity in her photos that simply attract my eyes. I feel that she does an incredible job with her photos. Personally, I really like her website, it is minimalist with nude color and straight to the point. I would like to see a little more text or description in the photos, at least some captions, but in reality, the photos have a lot to express by themselves. I can see the effort and dedication that she puts into each of her photos, with an impressive quality, very professional. Gorgeous portraits!

ANDRE RAMOS – WOODART

ungodliness
https://www.andreramoswoodard.com/

Andre Ramos seems to me a very interesting photographer, he has a bit of everything. “André goes out of their way to be the Blackest, Queerest version of themselves they can possibly be.” There is a lot to look at on his website, my favorite part of his website is his page called “Exalted Abominations”. I enjoyed each of his portraits with the editing and perfect titles according to the feeling of each image. I also really liked his playlist page and I listened to his music while looking at all his work. I feel like there are many anecdotes behind each photo, and I am curious about it. Andre says, “André does not like cops. At all. In fact, if you’re a cop you can see yourself off my website.” I really like that there are different concepts in his content. His website is very simple, and I like it that way. I can also see the dedication and passion that this artist has, excellent work!

Social Issue Poster-Human Rights

Human rights belong to all humans. ALL HUMANS, no matter who we are, where we come from, what we like. We absolutely all have the same rights and freedoms. I think it is something very easy to understand, however many people in the world do not know what human rights are, therefore they do not respect the rights of others or their own rights are violated. People have the right to be treated with respect and our mission is to respect others. How is it that being something so basic to know, many people cannot understand it? we are in the 21st century. Maybe this is due to the education we receive at home on how to treat others. In my opinion, our schools should teach us more extensively about human rights to ensure that we all understand the concept, and therefore we all give and receive respect and equality in every sense.

Currently, many people are based on religion, social class, sexual preferences, race, economic situation, and many other ideas that leads us into ignorance that instead of contributing with something positive, it leads us to create hate towards others. My intention is not to offend anyone, I understand that everyone has different points of view and it is okay to think differently and be different. Each individual has the right to express their thoughts and feelings, I consider that one effective way of expressing is through art. We should worry about more important things, appearances make impressions, but the value of a person is beyond her/his appearance. Instead of spreading hate, conflict and wars, we must spread love, peace and joy!

Read and Reflect: Why Photography is Important.

In the article, “Why Photography is Important” by Stefano Caioni, are described many of the reasons why taking pictures is important in most people’s lives. And I genuinely agree with everything that is said in this article, since I have had the opportunity to learn and experience in a close way why photography is important in everyday life. “Photography is important because it allows people to see the world from different perspectives” If we start to analyze it in different ways, we all come to the conclusion that everyone has different perspectives and points of view due to their position, but if we all look at a photograph, we will all be able to interpret the story from the same point of view and we will even be able to see all those existing points of view. Photography is essential in science and in history, it is a tool that gives us innumerable benefits and helps us discover, “From medicine to the animal world and the mystery of the cosmos, photography helps us discover what the naked eye couldn’t see.”

Photography is important to collect meaningful moments in your life and also it allows you to preserve moments with your loved ones. This is like having a superpower, where with your magic camera you can freeze a special moment and immortalize memories and special people. I think this is the biggest reason why I really like photography, since I found out how valuable a photo can be in the future, now I can’t stop capturing special moments with my family so that way in the future I can remember that specific moment and share it with others. Also, Photography is Important as a hobby because you keep learning, and I am a person who loves to learn new things, I have a huge admiration for the whole wide world of photography. You will never stop learning, a photographer will never have all the knowledge about photography, there is always something: technical, about composition, about new styles and trends to learn because a photographer must be constantly updating. Another thing that is related to learning is that photography Inspires you to travel more and meet more people “Photography makes you explore the world around you and gives you an excuse to go out, to travel more, to learn and experiment. Having new experiences and finding new places to visit with your family and friends. “

Wassily Critique

The first word it came to my mind when I saw this image is the word “party” I think it is because of the fun colors, the lines and shapes dancing through the image. Although the colors are not very vibrant, they still catch my attention because the black background makes everything stand out, in addition, it gives a different vibe. I feel that if the background had been a different color, it wouldn’t have caught my attention. If you pay attention to every detail, you can see how a story is told with each of the abstract forms that are there, it is interesting to see each part and each detail that is there. What I like the most is that the message can be subjective. The first thing I felt when saw this was joy, but if you look at it from another perspective, you can completely distort the story and it can even give you an opposite feeling to what you initially felt. If I look at it in another way, it may be a message of sadness or despair. However, the cool part of Wassily’s style is that it can give you the freedom to feel what you want, you can interpret his works in different ways and adapt it to your own feelings. Every little detail and shape give to this work a magnificent composition. I can interpret this image as the representation of what multiculturalism. I really don’t know what the meaning of this work is or what it was running through the artist’s mind, but whatever the purpose was, it is a characteristic and excellent representation of his style.

My work in Wassily Kandinsky’s style

SANDY SKOGLUND CRITIQUE

The work of artist Sandy Skoglund is quite distinctive. I think that she is an artist with a unique style because no other recognized artist has done what she does. I also think it is a great idea to mix opposite colors because they immediately create a very attractive composition for the viewers. I was impressed to know that she started taking pictures of food with colorful backgrounds and eye-catching patterns. “It was her means to develop a universal language – without a doubt everyone eats”. Her intention to use food as a subject was to create a connection with the spectators of her work. She later became a sculptor and photographer. This surreal image was the one that caught my attention despite the fact that this image does not have such striking colors, but it still creating a strong concept and those cold and mysterious colors gives a strange vibe with the babies all over. I feel that this image is a representation of one of my nightmares and that is why it was the one that caught my attention the most. I think it is a fun, ingenious and creative idea to express surrealist art. “Babies at Paradise Pond, 1996.” It is my favorite image because it seems to me to be one of the craziest works and in a certain way this image makes me smile.

My Favorite Photo from 100 Most Influential List

“V-J Day in Times Square” By Alfred Eisenstaedt (1945).

Probably one of the photographs that I have seen the most in my life is this one. I have seen it in many parts of the internet, in many statues in parks or museums, in places that I have visited, this photograph is framed on many walls, and I even have it in my room as part of the decoration. I think this is without a doubt a masterpiece, besides that I am very passionate about love stories. This seems to me a perfect representation of a happy story. This is a photo that captures fleeting snippets and crystallize the hope, anguish, wonder and joy of life. According to the story of this photograph, the photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt, was in search of a storytelling photo. It was on August 14, when World War II ended, in the streets of New York City. Suddenly, while Eisenstaedt was looking for something interesting to take a picture, a sailor in front of him grabbed hold of a nurse, tilted her back and kissed her. It seems to me such an exciting and passionate story, I would like to be in that place when that happened and simply witness that magical moment with my own eyes. On the other hand, I am happy to be able to admire this photograph today at any time I want and it seems incredible to me that I can have the opportunity to capture moments as magical as this one, it is like having magic in my hands simply by having a camera or my cell phone camera. I am very intrigued to know which photographs of this present moment will be famous in the future. It just blows my mind to imagine that I or one of the people I know for example my talented classmates can become famous in the future, and I’m afraid of not being alive to see it, it is one of my fears, but I would still enjoy it.

The passionate and profound Eisenstaedt’s photograph undoubtedly demonstrated relief and joy in a remote moment like the one lived at that time. This is one of the photographs that will always be there for us. This picture “Forms the basis of our collective memory of that transformative moment in world history.” People tell me that when I’m in heaven, “Eisenstaedt said,” they will remember this picture. ” And I agree, I never get tired of seeing this photo and I am sure that I will always remember it and it will be part of my favorite photographs forever.

Read and Reflect 2 articles on Canon Lens Experience

A Wildlife Photographer

The article about Ralph Lee Hopkins, a Wildlife Photographer, written by Grant Willing caught my attention, and I found it interesting to read about that side of wildlife photography. Simply being wildlife, it sounds quite interesting and exciting. I think that wildlife photography is more challenging than it seems, there is a great job behind those magnificent photographs of prancing deer, soaring birds, attacking tigers, etc. Nature is so surprising and interesting things are happening every moment and the work of wildlife photography connects us more to that world that is always there, but we hardly ever see it. Ralph Lee Hopkins is primarily an ecologist, he first fell in love with landscapes and while he was working and discovering the world of photography and landscapes, he traveled, lived and worked in the Southwest, the canyon country of Utah and Arizona. He also had the opportunity to do expeditions for National Geographic and traveled throughout California, Alaska, Galapagos, the Artic, and the Antarctic, exploring the territories, landscapes and the wildlife. My favorite part and what inspires me about this photographer is that he says, “What digital has changed is the way I shoot with respect when working” This is very important to me, because I feel that we must have respect for nature and when photographing animals with responsibility and respect, it is something admirable to me. Another thing that I like about this photographer is that he is into nature conservation which gives me a lot of inspiration to do something similar to him.

A Celebrity Portrait Photographer

The article about Jeremy Cowart who is a Celebrity Portrait Photographer, written by Shawn Steiner illustrates his experience through time and everything he learned to become a great celebrity photographer. First, he started out as a graphic designer and worked creating a smartphone application and then he became a photographer. As he studied design, he discovered his passion for photography when he was shooting textures to use on his design work. That’s when he discovered that he wanted to dedicate himself to the world of photography, he confesses that he had no knowledge about photography, he did not know anything about visual composition or technical information, but still he bought his first 3.3MP Canon camera and he started to photograph his friends and family. Something that I like a lot and that the photographer Jeremy Cowart mentions is that “This only proves the saying that it is the photographer and not the camera”. Also, the author says, “The most interesting part about the selection is the reasoning about it. And the dramatic leap of faith Cowart took in spending a lot of money on gear that he knew little about” And this seems very important to me since Cowart didn’t know much about photography but he still decided to invest and take it seriously, experimenting until he got a good job mainly because it was something he was passionate about. Another thing that really inspires me is that Cowart says “You should be able to make beautiful images with any lens” This is evidence that we can all be able to take a good photo with any type of camera, no matter if it is not a camera expensive or a lot of professional equipment, for example we as photography students may not have access to a digital camera, however, we are still taking very good photos with our cell phone. It is true that a good camera does not necessarily make a good photographer, the magic is within the photographer’s effort, and his own ideas can help him stand out from the rest. To be a good photographer you don’t need a lot of money, but you do need imagination and being prepared to work under any circumstance.

Photography Job Hunting on Indeed

After analyzing the different jobs that are offered on indeed.com site, I was able to discover many different jobs in the photography and art areas. The first job that caught my attention was the preschool photographer, by Shutterfly Inc. where Lifetouch Preschool photography in Moreno Valley, CA captures several hundred of smiles from every child. The requirements for this position consist of: Eagerness to learn and excellent customer service skills, Reliable, insured vehicle and valid U.S. driver’s license, High school diploma or equivalent experience, Willingness to work a varied seasonal schedule, including early mornings. Which sounds good to me, best of all, I personally enjoy working with kids. One of my favorite things is portraits because I can capture the essence of a person at a specific time in their lives. So, I think this would be a good job and a lot of fun. Another job that also caught my attention was the one of Newborn Photographer, I had never thought of a job where I have to take photos in such a special moment which is the birth of a new creature and to be able to capture that moment, I feel that it is a very captivating experience. As I mentioned earlier, I enjoy kids and I also love and enjoy babies. The location for this work is in San Bernardino, CA, but the location may vary depending on the hospitals, it could be in several states nationwide. The service provides to hospitals beautiful artistic photography ad to the patients and families, right at the bedside. The job of hospital newborn photography is to capture the baby’s first portrait, present, and sell photo packages and specialty items. The requirements for this job are:
